How Hot Stone Massage Works

Smooth, flat and warmed stones are placed or rubbed on specific parts of the body. Not just any type of stones are used – we use stones made from basalt, a form of volcanic rock that retains heat well. The stones are heated to an average temperature of 130 to 145 degrees. Once heated, these stones will be placed along the body in accordance with TCM meridian energy lines. This may include your back, spine, stomach, chest, face, palms, feet and toes.

Heat from the stones boost blood circulation, which reduces muscle spasms and relieve pain. The hard texture of stones help to smoothen out any knots, bumps or swelling from prolonged muscle tightness. When followed by massage therapy, Hot Stone Massage also reduces stress and anxiety, allowing for better sleep. This treatment can also be a complementary therapy for many conditions, as massage can reduce pain, nausea, depression and even enhance the body’s immunity.

Treatment Process

Before the massage, our therapist will conduct a full body analysis to determine the treatment area to focus on.

Once the treatment areas are identified, heated stones will be placed at targeted areas on the body.

Our therapist will hold the heated stone as they massage your body. Different massage techniques such as kneading, tapping, pinching, pushing, stretching and cupping motions to trigger muscle relaxation and release muscle knots.

You may feel sore during and after the massage. This is normal due to the effects from deep tissue manipulation. You should not be feeling pain. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort during the massage, please inform your therapist immediately.
